  • Synology DiskStation NAS – A powerful NAS solution

Network storage has been around for a while. In its infancy the NAS was utilized as a major commercial network storage solution. As technology developed and time went on, the NAS found itself inside of the consumer’s home. Since the dawn of the NAS a lot has changed, such as storage capacities, processing power and of course network link bandwidth.

When it comes to choosing a NAS device, there’s a lot of options out there, but the Synology DiskStation is one of our favorites. Not only is the device extremely powerful, but it is loaded with features that you don’t see on most similar NAS systems. Check out it’s powerful features:

• Dual-core 1.33 GHz CPU

• Excellent performance over 223 MB/s reading and 94 MB/s writing

• Dual 1GbE LAN ports for failover and Link Aggregation

• Four 2.5″ hot-swappable drive trays

We particularly appreciate the powerful dual-core CPU which gives this puppy the ability to pump out 223MB/s, which is quite an incredible feat for any NAS system. Connectivity is also packed with a failover 1GbE port to ensure that your connection doesn’t fail. In fact, this unit is perfect for even a corporate setup and therefore is absolutely incredibly performant as a home-based NAS. We’ve worked with plenty of NAS systems in the past and, although most of them are pretty effective, the Synology DiskStation is certainly one of the best.

Another great aspect for the DiskStation is the ease of setup. It can be daunting to setup some NAS systems properly, but the good folks over at IT BLOCK have worked out an Easy way to connect your Synology NAS to Windows guide. This procedure takes all of the guesswork out of setting up the DiskStation and gets you up and running in no time!

This setup will run you around $300-$350 and is available from a variety of retailers such as Amazon, B&H Video and so on. As we’ve shown, this NAS is quite easy to setup and use, even for those that have little experience with such a system. For those of you thinking about upgrading your NAS, we can highly recommend this device as it has been one of best units we’ve used in our testing.
