Amazon Web Services and The Hands On DIY Guide

2020 has been a crazy year, but one thing that has shined through this entire pandemic has been tech-related companies. Thanks to the stay-at-home orders, many tech companies that offer services that cater to being stuck inside your house have become some of the most valuable companies on the face of the planet. If your business is in the tech field, then you’re probably already familiar with AWS (Amazon Web Services), the ultra-premier web service platform that has taken the internet by storm over the past few years.

For those of you that are not familiar with AWS, it can be summed up as a conglomeration of pretty much every tool you’ll ever need to create highly scalable web applications that are tightly integrated and are designed to work and scale with each other effortlessly. There’s an almost unlimited scope of options available, but to keep it simple, most people rely on two of their major services: Relational databases and Compute units, which we’ll go into a bit.

For example, if you need to deploy a relational database in the cloud, there is a major option from Amazon called Aurora. Amazon Athena is a godsend for companies that store data in the cloud via a database such as Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server or relational databases. If you are a business with a large amount of data and need a secure environment, this has a powerful use case, as it is the most secure and scalable database available in Amazon’s cloud. If you want to develop enterprise applications that are scalable and error-resistant, Amazon EC2 provides the features you need to do this across multiple instances. AWS customers demand uniform and complete protection via a common computing fleet, which EC2 satisfies thoroughly.

AWS has a strong history that has been able to get it to where it is today. In 2013 AWS began to offer a certification process for its services and customers started to register even faster. AWS has developed a market share that puts it ahead of other competitors that offer their own cloud computing services. In 2014, the Simple Queue Service was introduced and in summer, the Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) was introduced. Over time, AWS added services that helped make AWS a cost-effective infrastructure platform that was highly available and scalable. There’s no doubt about how popular AWS is and it is unsurprising that it is the leading platform for web app development.

While you can find information all over the web about AWS, our favorite site for tutorials and the hands-on approach to working with AWS is Hands-On.Cloud.
