  • Refurbished iPhone 11 vs. iPhone 12 – Which Offers Better Value in 2021

If you are thinking of going for an iPhone 12, sticking with your iPhone 11, or buying one of the two phones, you will be happy to know that both are excellent phones. The iPhone 11 is an older model and cheaper to buy now, but the iPhone 12 delivers the addicting performance of new Apple chips. Let’s get the prices out of the way first, the price of a refurbished iPhone 11 128gb in Australia starts at $679 AUD on Phonebot. Whereas, the price of a refurbished iPhone 12 starts at $959 AUD. You can make strong cases for both of them, but which is the best to buy as a refurbished device. Let’s find out below with an in-depth look at the features that make these phones a great choice.

iPhone 11 vs. iPhone 12: Design

Apple iPhones are known to be very ergonomic devices; they can fit well in the palms without compromising on the screen size. The most palm-friendly phone of the range is the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini, but if it too small, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12, which is a similar size to the iPhone 11, is good enough. You can also expect the Pro devices from both ranges to have large displays.

Both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 are IP68 water resistant and they have wireless charging but no headphone jack like it has been since the iPhone 7. That said, it is with the display that great leaps from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 12 begin to show.  The iPhone 12 comes with an OLED display and a magnetic back that supports the new MagSafe wireless charging and accessories.  The iPhone 12 has a flatter profile with l flat faces and sharp edges dominating the designs compared to a softer, more rounded iPhone 11.

iPhone 11 vs. iPhone 12: Display

The Super Retina XDR OLED displays on the iPhone 12 range can be compared to the screen on the iPhone 11 Pro but better—they are OLED screens. The OLED screen means better vibrant colors and better viewing angles even in the sun. The 11’s display is also no slouch when it comes to colour accuracy and display sharpness, it’s one of the best LCD display you could find on a phone. For the iPhone 12, an OLED screen means that it comes with an improved dynamic range, HDR support and a high contrast ratio. The iPhone 11 is equipped with Liquid Retina IPS LCD display with 625 nits of brightness and it has a resolution of 828 x 1792, whereas, the iPhone 12 is equipped with a Super Retina XDR OLED with 625 nits of brightness which peaks at 1200 nits. It has a resolution of 1170 x 2532 and a PPI density of 460.

iPhone 11 vs. iPhone 12: Performance

If you have not yet reckoned the power of Apple Silicon, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 are perfect examples of the performance you have been missing out on. The iPhone 12 comes with a mighty impressive A14 Bionic chip which Apple says delivers 50% better CPU and 50% better GPU performance than the competing chip on an Android device.  It is faster and also has better thermal efficiency, which means that you can use your phone doing CPU or GPU intensive operations for longer. It is by far the best chip you can get on the market, and to imagine that the iPhone 11 has the A13 Bionic chip that the A14 Bionic replaced is amazing. It means that the iPhone 11 has impressive performance, too, and for an older device, it is a strong point to consider, especially if you are buying refurbished.

The iPhone 12 also comes as a 5G-enabled device. It can work on both mmWave 5G and sub-6GHz 5G which means adding to the performance of the A14 Bionic chip, the iPhone 12 is futureproofed.  That said, Apple is known to support its devices for a long time, and the iPhone 11 will still receive updates for a long time to come.

iPhone 11 vs. iPhone 12: Camera

The image processing credentials of iPhones have always been at the top with some of the best camera systems on their phones.  The iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 both sport dual camera systems for the rear camera, with both having 12MP wide and 12MP Ultra-wide lenses.  The iPhone 12 has an improved wide-angle lens from the iPhone 11, but both can take amazing shots under ideal conditions.

Thanks to the power of the A14 Bionic chip and a new neural engine, the iPhone 12 is capable of a lot more, including low light photography, deep fusion on all lenses and a night mode.  The front cameras are also the same, but the iPhone 12 just takes advantage of that extra processing power. On the pro Models, you will find extra features like the LIDAR sensor and Time of Flight Sensor.

iPhone 11 vs. iPhone 12: Battery life

Both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 models deliver impressive battery performance. Apple iPhones usually don’t have a 5,000mAh battery like their android competition, but thanks to the efficiency of the chips, they can have equally impressive battery life. You can get up to 11 hours on a single charge of the iPhone 11 and up to 9 hours on the iPhone 12 with 5G fully on. Apple has also increased the charging options with A MagSafe charger which can deliver up to 15W wireless charging. The 11 is equipped with a 3110 mAh litium Ion battery and the 12 is equipped with a 2815 mAh one but due to the efficiency of the newer chipset, battery life is similar.

Looking at both devices, the 5G capability of the iPhone 12 is a great good to have, but it isn’t much of an advantage given that 5G coverage is not yet well established.  But that aside, both these phones perform amazing, and the iPhone 12 just edges the iPhone 11 because of the powerful chip. They are both great phones to use in the future, and they are and an even better deal if you were to get the spec and performance at a bargain by going for a refurbished one.
